Institute Project Presented at the Competition Week of the BRICS Antitrust Authorities

Head of the Institute Alexey Ivanov and Head of Research Initiatives Ioannis Lianos on the first day of the international 'Russian Competition Week' presented an Institute project to BRICS delegates on the topic of global food chains. The meeting was moderated by the Deputy Head of the Federal Antimonopoly service Andrey Tsyganov, who noted the special importance of competition in socially important markets and the importance of the BRICS to food security.

Alexey Ivanov explained that what is now underway at the Institute is the study of food markets in the BRICS through the prism of competition law and policy. A pilot project, it will demonstrate the benefits of a differentiated system approach to research problems in antitrust legislation. Towards project implementation, a national-level team has been formed, and active participation of Antimonopoly Service officials has begun.
Such a format of interaction between the contributors marks a first step towards the formation of a system of academic partnership within the BRICS community in the field of antitrust law and policy. It is planned to create a comprehensive BRICS Centre for research and information exchange in the field of antitrust, which will provide the member state bodies with independent scientific advice. The Centre should work shoulder to shoulder with the competition authorities via a unified web-based BRICS platform, which would become a platform for interaction among and between the agencies, affiliated experts, and a wider audience too.
