Alexey Ivanov Presents an Analysis of Competition Law & Policy in Kazakhstan to the OECD Global Forum on Competition

As a leading expert of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Director of the Institute Alexey Ivanov from April 2015 conducted a comprehensive assessment of the situation in Kazakhstan in the field of competition and compliance with legislation and policy regulation. The detailed (peer-review) analytical report was presented at the meeting of the Competition Committee of the OECD, which was held on October 29th in the framework of the Global Forum on Competition. Kazakhstan strives to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development - a forum for the most developed countries of the world. The share of the 34 member countries of the OECD in terms of global GDP is about 60%. Joining the OECD is a long and complex process that involves assessment of the willingness and the ability of Kazakhstan to fulfill the obligations imposed by membership of the Organisation. Ivanov analysed both the economic and non-economic indicators in different institutional and socio-economic relations. The development of competition is considered to be one of the key conditions for a positive outlook in the economy as a whole, and the OECD performs mandatory antitrust law and policy evaluation of potential members. Russia underwent this same procedure of assessment in 2013, with great success, as the OECD acknowledged that in the field of protection of competition, Russia meets their high standards.
