A Session on the Future of Intellectual Property

27 January saw a regular meeting of the IPNet National Technology Initiative group, which focussed on the development of a vision of intellectual property for the year 2035.

Since its creation, the Institute for Law and the Development of HSE-Skolkovo has been actively involved in the work groups of IPNet. Alexey Ivanov chaired the working subgroup "Searching for balance between the interests of right holders and consumers" (the protocols of the meetings of the subgroup can be found here, Protocol 1 (PDF, 359 KB) and Protocol 2 (PDF, 223 KB).

The formation of a picture of the future of 2035 is a key principle regarding the methodology of developing a roadmap. The inevitable future, for which Russia should prepare for, is based on an understanding of what is necessary in terms of building new strategies, and that is the key vision of the IPNet group.

Alexey Ivanov presented a description of the socio-economic circumstances of 2035 and the principles that should guide the country to reform and regulation of IP. Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology Sergey Matveev proposed a system of circulation of intellectual assets for the future, and the Deputy Director of the Program for Planning, Reporting and Evaluating the Effectiveness of the Skolkovo Foundation, Sergey Izrailit descried the digital tools involved in the flow of intellectual assets.
