The Institute at Competition Week

On September 24th-27th, the international forum Competition Week in Russia was hosted in Sochi, organised by the Federal Antimonopoly Service of the Russian Federation (FAS). Experts of the Institute participated in meetings of the Public Council of FAS, and contributed to discussions with foreign partners on issues of pharmaceutical markets and the ICT sector. More detailed information can be found in the notes of our authors from the event.

The session was held in a question-and-answer format. The participants answered three questions from the moderator. The first question concerned the main types of anticompetitive practices of global players in developing jurisdictions, and ways to combat them. The second round of discussion was devoted to the progressive measures of antitrust response to anti-competitive practices that curb innovation in the pharmaceutical industry: how can the antitrust regulator helpinnovation? The third issue addressed the discussion of preventive measures of antitrust response, namely, the BRICS competition agencies' approaches to global economic concentration: how to jointly respond to the challenges of the growing global oligopoly in the field of high-tech pharmaceuticals?

Speakers participating in the discussion were key international specialists in the field of antitrust from Europe and Asia, the BRICS countries, and representatives of regulatory authorities. The session was attended by the head of the FAS, Igor Artemyev, who also delivered the closing remarks.

Alexey Ivanov also spoke at a meeting of the International Working Group on the development of competition in the sector of information and communication technologies (ICT) with a report on "the Application of Competition Law to the Objects of Intellectual Property Rights (Consideration of restrictive practices implemented through exclusivity, orders to stop the restriction of competition, and the development of reasonable approaches to ensure innovative development)."
