Artyom Karapetov’s Lecture on Economic Analysis of Law

On the evening of 22 January, despite forecasts of the winter’s coldest night, a lecture hall on Shabolovka was packed. The number of people wishing to attend the event far exceeded the number of available seats, forcing the organizers to close registration more than a day before the lecture.

Artyom Karapetov, who hardly needs presentation, was our guest. Still, a couple words of introduction, just for the sake of formality. Doctor of Laws, professor of the Department of Practical Jurisprudence of the Faculty of Law of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, director of the Law Institute M-Logos, and editor-in-chief of the Bulletin of Economic Justice.

 

The meeting was moderated by Kirill Molodyko, a leading research fellow of the HSE-Skolkovo Institute for Law and Development.

As part of the general topic, “Economic Analysis of Law”, Professor Karapetov paid special attention to the following issues:

· Why do we need judicial protection of civil rights?

· Civil rights protection models

· Regulatory impact of compensatory protection

· Absolute protection and cases of permissible deviations from it.

Artyom Karapetov answered numerous questions from HSE Faculty of Law’s PhD students and the guests of the event, who did not let the speaker go for a long time even after the meeting was formally over.

 

According to registration data, the event was attended by teachers and researchers of the HSE, graduate and PhD students of various faculties of the HSE, employees, graduate and PhD students of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), Russian Foreign Trade Academy, Russian School of Private Law, Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences, Kutafin Moscow State Law University, All-Russian State University of Justice, Russian University of Justice, employees of the Bank of Russia, Eurasian Economic Commission, leading Moscow law firms, lawyers in private practice.
